download manager 1.6 available

Download Manager 1.6 Installation

1. Install the image files

Using your favorite ftp client install the button images into a suitable directory on your website. I suggest /images/ as a good place.
Note: the directory should be accessible from the webserver
This means that the directory should not be in the cgi-bin area it should be in the html area.
At the time of writing there are english and french buttons available. simply upload the buttons of your choice.

2. Install the icon files

Using your favorite ftp client install the icon images into a suitable directory on your website. I suggest /dl_icons/ as a good place.
Note: the directory should be accessible from the webserver
This means that the directory should not be in the cgi-bin area it should be in the html area.

3. Create the downloads directory

Create the downloads directory and chmod it to be writeable by the webserver. chmod 777 is probably best. I use a directory called /cgi-bin/dl1.6/dl_list.pl
Note: the directory should be accessible from the webserver
This means that the directory should not be in the cgi-bin area it should be in the html area.

4. Upload the CGI files

It is recomended that you use the auto install version unless you have difficulties. The autoinstall version includes two files dl_setup.pl and dlscript.data. These two files should be uploaded into either your cgi-bin directory or a subdirectory off the cgi-bin. I prefer to use a directory called dl or dl1.5
Once uploaded the dl_setup.pl should be chmodded to 755 for read / execute to the server.

If you don't know where the cgi-bin directory is for your site you should contact your system administrator. Be sure to use text mode to transfer the files. This ensures that the script is in the correct format for the host system.

5. Run dl_setup.pl

Running dl_setup.pl unpacks the script files into the download directory and sets the correct permissions. After unpacking the files it presents a configuration screen that is used to configure the download manager package to your system.

The settings that are generated are normally correct only requiring you to change the location of the images if you didn't use /images/ , /dl_icons/ and /cgi-bin/dl1.6/dl_list.pl as suggested

Note: Confirm the path of the dl_icons on your system. dl_setup only guesses these locations for security reasons.

Pressing the send button at the bottom of the page will create a config file using the details generated. It will also create a logfile and a password database.

4. Test the script

Test the script by clicking on the register link on the confirmation screen.

Notes

dl_setup.pl can be used at any time to re-configure your system. it will not overwrite database or logfiles if they exist. Configuration files that exist are renamed to have a time and data suffix and a new config file is created.
